Not our last 2 days in Florida!!

On Wednesday, we spent some time at Four Mile Cove Ecological Park in Cape Coral.

It is a brackish water wetland area that features a walking trail, kayak rentals, a visitor center and a Veterans Memorial Area. Situated along the Caloosahatchee River, it gives a nice view of Fort Myers.

I especially like this parking space reserved for the combat wounded.

One of the exhibits in the nature center contains birds and ducks crafted from coconuts.

We have passed this area several times on our way to Cape Coral and always noted the Iwo Jima Monument. While it is a smaller version of the one we know so well from Arlington, VA, it still is very impressive.

Another statute that caught my interest was Tribute to a Soldier. It depicts a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi boy holding a soccer ball as they salute our flag together. Even though this setting is from Iraq, it’s meant to commemorate all wars and all of the times when troops have helped to make it safe for boys to play soccer.

We saw some pretty flowers and plants while geocaching.

While looking for a geocache at a sports complex, I noticed this sign posted on one of the shelters. We have experienced some powerful thunder storms here during the last three months, so it appears that this is a warning that needs to be observed.

My favorite geocache that we found today was hosted in a lady bug container.

We were serenaded by some beautiful bird songs.

I continue to be impressed by the Australian Pines which are not pine trees at all. Its scale-like leaves are mistaken for needles. Hardly anything else grows under these trees and their leaves provide a very soft walking surface.

Thursday would have been spent packing all of stuff in preparation for beginning our drive back to Maryland on Friday. But, since we have been able to extend our stay for two weeks, we spent some of our time at the swimming pool today!
